Privacy Policy

Freehand Pte. Ltd., a company registered in Singapore and operating "Merdown" ("we", "us", or "our"), is responsible for this Privacy Policy. It explains how information is handled when you use the Merdown website and macOS application.

1. Merdown is local by design

Merdown does not require an account. Your Markdown files, Mermaid diagrams, repository history, edits and generated previews remain on your Mac. Merdown does not upload that content to servers operated by Freehand Pte. Ltd.

2. Information Merdown accesses

Merdown accesses only the files and folders you choose to open. It may read the Git history stored in a selected repository so that it can display source and diagram changes. This processing happens on your device.

3. App Sandbox and permissions

The Mac App Store edition uses Apple’s App Sandbox. Access to documents and folders is controlled by macOS and is limited to locations you select or permissions you grant. You can revoke access through macOS or by removing the app.

4. Purchases and App Store data

Apple processes downloads, purchases, refunds and related App Store information under Apple’s own terms and privacy policy. Freehand Pte. Ltd. does not receive or store your payment-card details.

5. Analytics and diagnostics

The Merdown website uses Vercel Web Analytics to collect anonymised, aggregated information about website visits, such as the page viewed, referrer, approximate location, browser, operating system and device type. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies, and the analytics data is not associated with an identified person, customer or IP address.

The Merdown application does not include analytics, advertising trackers or session recording. Merdown does not collect product-usage events or send your documents, diagrams, repository history or file paths to Vercel Web Analytics.

Apple may separately provide crash reports or diagnostic information if you have chosen to share analytics with developers.

6. Support communications

If you send a problem report from Merdown, we receive the name, email address and problem description you enter, together with the Merdown version, build number and macOS version. Reports are forwarded to Freehand’s support service. Merdown does not attach documents, diagram contents, repository history or file paths. If delivery fails, Merdown opens a pre-addressed email draft and you decide whether to send it.

We use support information to respond to and resolve the issue, and retain it only for as long as reasonably necessary for support, security and legal purposes.

7. Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share support reports with service providers that operate our support systems. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect legal rights or safety, or in connection with a corporate transaction involving Freehand Pte. Ltd.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal information we hold about you, including access, correction or deletion. Because Merdown works locally and does not require an account, we will ordinarily hold no Merdown document data to retrieve or delete.

9. Children

Merdown is a general-purpose productivity application and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Merdown changes. The current version will be published on this page with a revised last-updated date.
