FAQ

Everything you need to know before bringing Merdown into your workflow.

Which Mermaid diagrams does Merdown support?

Merdown supports the diagram types included with its bundled Mermaid release, including flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, state diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams and more.

Can I compare diagrams across Git history?

Yes. Browse commits already stored in your repository, compare source changes, and inspect visual additions and removals without changing your working files.

Which files appear when I open a folder?

Merdown shows folders and supported Markdown and Mermaid files. Other file types, such as JSON, images and attachments, stay hidden because Merdown is specifically designed for editing Markdown and Mermaid. This provides an undistracted view of the documents you need to edit. If you also need to work with other file types, use a general-purpose editor such as Visual Studio Code.

Does Merdown upload my files?

No. Merdown works with local files on your Mac and does not require an account.

Which export formats are available?

You can export rendered diagrams as PNG, SVG, or PDF.

Which macOS versions are supported?

Merdown supports macOS 13 and later.
